Houston High School Volleyball League (HHSVL) Code of Conduct

Applicable to every participant in any capacity (coach, assistant coach, player, team manager, athletic director, or other staff) that will accompany the team and sit at the bench with the team
Participant's Name
This Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines that apply prior, during, and after a game, and are established to maintain the integrity of a volleyball match and the Houston High School Volleyball League. These are not League Rules. League Rules will be sent to Team Staff and posted online for reference. Violations to the Code of Conduct will be evaluated and addressed accordingly.

1. Sportsmanship

Players and team staff members should show respect to teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials. This includes being fair and allowing officials to perform their job to the best of their abilities. Team staff should remind their spectators about being respectful and ethical fans of the match and avoid offensive vocabulary towards opponents and or officials.

2. Attendance & Punctuality

Teams should be on time to games and tournaments. If a team is late (home team or visitor), penalization should apply at the discretion of the official and the opponent, per the League Rules.

3. Behavior

Players and team staff members should act appropriately and respect the rules set by HHSVL. They should also avoid bullying, offensive language, and inappropriate physical contact and treatment towards their teammates or their opponent before, during, and after each game. Abuse of any kind is not tolerated. Use of objects that compromise the integrity of the game, and the safety of others will not be tolerated.

4. Substances

Players should not use illegal drugs, tobacco, alcohol, electronic cigarettes, and any other illegal substance including unprescribed controlled medication.

5. Weapons

Possession of weapons, including firearms, are prohibited school grounds by Texas law unless with a written consent by the school to a person of legal age.

6. Social Media

Players or any team member should be mindful of what they post online and avoid posting anything that could be embarrassing or damaging to their teammates, their team leaders, their opponents, officials, volunteers, HHSVL, spectators, and any other person present during a HHSVL scheduled event. If any concerns arise, they should be brought up respectfully to the attention of HHSVL. HHSVL reserves the right to use images, photography, and or video, taken of any team player and or staff member during a HHSVL scheduled event, for use in HHSVL social media pages, website, pamphlets or flyers, for game highlights, or HHSVL advertisement or promotional events.

7. Anti-doping

Players should not violate anti-doping policies as established by UIL. Information on these established regulations will be available to every adult team staff member.

8. Property

Players and staff members should not steal or damage the property of others, school property or personal, and should respect all property and use it properly. Do not seat on tables, stand on chairs, pick up your trash, do not kick volleyballs lend to your team, and make sure you return everything you are allowed to use and show gratitude.

9. Officials

Error calls can occur and are not intentional. A bad call is normally not the reason why a team loses a game. Officials are encourage to counsel if there is doubt on a call. Players should speak to their coach if they believe there was un unfair call, and coach should approach Floor Official respectfully. Team captain is the only person on the court allow to talk to First Official. Verbal abuse towards officials will not be tolerated.
